Skagerak Dania Cutting Board

Your knife’s new best friend. Assembled by small pieces of teak end grain, our Skagerak Dania cutting board gets a unique pattern in various light and dark brown nuances. Teak contains natural oils resistant to moisture and germs and the upward fibers on end grain absorb the impact from knife blades sublimely. This ensures a top-notch durability – both in terms of the board itself and the knives used on it. The board has built-in grips on each end and a juice groove that collects liquids and crumbles before the cause any troubles.

CARE

Proper usage and maintenance is vital for getting the most out of the valuable resources we have. Our designs are made to last for generations, but just like everything else, they need a little care to get there.

Teak

Origin
Teak is commonly found in Southeast Asia, Central and South America. Our FSC-certified Teak comes from Central America, Brazil and Indonesia, while our non-certified Teak comes from plantations in Southeast Asia and Trinidad; managed to sustain a renewable and reliable supply of wood.

Why
Teak is a heavy, hard and sturdy type of wood. With a high content of natural oils, teak is super resistant to rot and fungus – making it an ideal choice for crafting everyday household articles.

Cleaning & Maintenance
Caring for your cutting board is important in order to enjoy it for years to come.
Beeswax polish is a popular choice for cutting board maintenance. Beeswax is an all natural wax produced by honey bees and has a variety of applications. You can use it to hydrate, shine, and waterproof a cutting board. Add a good amount of beeswax and rub it in. Let it penetrate the wood overnight. Replenish as needed. You can use baking soda to remove stubborn stains from your cutting board. Simply sprinkle a little directly on the stain and rub it in with a brush dipped in hot water. While it is important to thoroughly clean your cutting board, avoid soaking it in water or washing it in the dishwasher. This will warp or crack your board. Washing the board should be done quickly and efficiently.

Be aware that the wood will change colour when a polish is applied.

When you unwrap your new cutting board, you might find it stained or a little greasy. The greasy look comes from the oil finish we applied to the board before wrapping it. The stains are accumulations of colouring matter and will soon disappear as the board is exposed to light and air. In the beginning, the oil may extract some of the colouring matter which can leave stains on a light surface.

Note
Before using your cutting board for the first time, please make sure to clean it in soapy water.

Oil treatment
The teak has been treated with food safe oil to improve its resistance. Therefore, we recommend that you treat the wood at regular intervals with an oil – e.g. worktop oil – to preserve the glow and resistance. If the product is not oiled continuously, the surface may change colour over time and become silvery grey.

ABOUT

Skagerak is a family-owned company established in 1976 in Denmark. Our primary focus has always been on producing quality furniture designed to last for generations. As a Danish business, we are deeply rooted in Scandinavian heritage and craftmanship balancing the contracts between classical virtues and modern daily life. We believe in sustainable and straightforward beauty and work with skilled international designers that help us achieve that goal. Sustainability runs deep in our veins - in materials, production and the way we treat partners and employees, which is why we have been proud members of the UN Global Compact Act since 2010, B Corp since 2017 and FSCTM-certified since 2001. The name Skagerak refers to our northern location and to the strait 'Skagerrak' that connects Denmark to its Nordic neighbours - a strait that has been crucial in developing the region. Skagerak is an international brand that creates a functional and long-lasting design, and one of our most significant ambitions is to take responsibility and stay curious.
