Grimm's Large Rainbow

grimm-s-logo.jpg

A rainbow is a beautiful weather phenomenon that brings joy to young and old. Our Grimm's large rainbow is cut from one piece of wood making each piece unique through variations of wood patterns and grains but it is also a fascinating object for the very young. Bright colours are appealing for children and the ergonomic forms inspire for a variety of games and creative play. With some fantasy it can be used to build roller coasters, bridges, tunnels or it can transform into fences to keep animals contained or a cradle for your child's doll. It can be stacked to create little homes for gnomes or simply used as a puzzle by placing it back together. It can be even used as an educational tool at home or at school. Children can learn how to draw a rainbow and explore the colours or it can be used as a visual prop if weather and weather conditions are taught. How does a rainbow form?

Grimm's large rainbow helps babies to develop fine motor skills and sorting techniques.

Grimm's large rainbow is made of sustainable wood and has been painted with safe water-based stain and is recommended by "Spiel gut" a German toy guide. The largest piece of the rainbow measures 38 cm x 7 cm x 18 cm (15.2 x 2.8 x 7.2 inches). Grimm's toys grow with your child, with the same toys appealing to children of many ages; they are not only wonderful baby toys but are also great, creative toys for young children. Our Grimm's wooden rainbow is also a beautiful decorative item for he nursery and is a popular baby shower gift.

Made in Bosnia

All Grimm's toys are produced and hand painted in small factories within Germany and Bosnia. Each item is produced with lots of care and anyone that has ever held a Grimm's toy in their hands will understand their slogan: "Joy through colours"! Grimm's develops toys that help children discover their own creativity through simple and reduced shapes that leave room for independent arrangement. Many of Grimm's toys integrate Waldorf and Montessori aspects in their design. Grimm's are one of Europe's most beloved companies for natural toys. Ava's Appletree is proud to offer Grimm's toys now to parents in Canada.

Grimm’s Product Care

Grimm’s stands for quality and longevity. When making our toys, Grimm's Toys carefully selects the wood without defects. At each step, the quality of the wood is checked. But wood lives and responds to air changes. Wood is a natural product and not indestructible, so we can not rule out that something could break. If something breaks, you can repair the piece with wood glue.

Children may be advised and prompted to use caution with their special toys.

If you want to remove dirt from Grimm's products, simply wipe with a damp cloth and some soapy water (if necessary). When drying, please do not place on the heater, otherwise cracks may occur in the wood, but allow to dry at room temperature. Please never clean our products with disinfectant, hot water or similar!

GRIMM'S MANUFACTURING

Grimm's is a family owned and sustainably managed manufacturer, which produces high quality and safe wooden toys made to officially certified standards. In product development, Grimm's Toys is guided by the principles of Waldorf education and other educational approaches, such as Montessori. All their products are tested regularly and comply with the European Toy Safety Standard (EN 71) and US standards.

Grimm's products always have unique traces of nature. With a few exceptions, everything is sanded and cut by hand. The company uses FSC certified  alder, lime, beech and maple wood. Woodworking is outsourced to small independent companies in Europe. The largest of these producers has learned his trade working in our company in Germany. At the company's headquarter, new products are developed, and products are oiled, dipped in colour, assembled, quality checked, packaged and shipped all over the world.

UNIQUE MARKINGS

We love wood because it is a natural material so it always has various markings that show up in our products. The unique variations are proof of quality, not defects. For example, dark spots on the rainbow are caused by mineral deposits. This means that if the tree had grown further, a branch would have developed at this point. Black stripes are also something completely natural. This is the pith tube or "heart of the tree". It differs from the surrounding wood by the darker colour and structure. When working on the wood, it can become completely or partially visible. This feature is part of the natural appearance of the wood. Therefore, these are not defects for us, but quality features of a natural product and as such are desired and welcomed by us. We love this uniqueness of wood!

PAINTED BY HAND

All rainbow friends and decorative figures are hand-painted and decorated in the most loving detail. In assembly and packaging, Grimm's work in part with workshops for adults with special needs in Germany.

OUR COLOURS

The bright colour glaze and plant oils preserve the living surface of the wood in structure and feel. The result is a rough and yet velvety wooden surface, which contributes to a greater play value, because the individual pieces do not slip off so easily. Grimm's Toys use glazing colours and vegetable oil for our products. Their colours are water-based, non-toxic and saliva-fast. Of course, all colours and oils are certified according to the European toy safety standard (EN 71).

Shipping is only available within Canada.

    Great concept....

Posted by Unknown on 4th May 2013

I want to love this. Rainbow arches are a great, open ended toy, and son plays with them in a number of different ways. Great concept, but there are few issues with these. The colours are beautiful, and it doesn't feel like they are treated with anything (or maybe a bit of beeswax) but the paint is marring, so the lighter colored arches are getting covered in bits of red/blue/purple. Only the "outside" of the arch has been sanded properly (they won't give you splinters, but the inside is full of little ruts from the saw). I gather they used some sort of a drum sander, which might make it difficult to sand down the inside? It's cut from one piece of wood, and it's not cut perfectly straight (on some of mine, the cut is noticeably crooked), so they only fit together one way, which is frustrating for little ones. Also, they're quite thin, so be on guard for toddlers that might want to make a seat of them. They are fun though, but if you know anyone with a band saw, buy some wood and bug them to cut it for you. Then take your time and sand and seal it properly. There's a good tutorial online if you search wooden rainbow arches.
